What is the best piece of advice you WISHED you received before starting your job search?
I WISH….
1. ….I knew how important it was to showcase my job potential and interview really well instead of worrying only about what I had previously accomplished.
2. ....I had spent time thinking about what steps to take to make myself successful in the job market; including writing an action plan and then following my action plan to reach my goal.
3. ….I knew that as a new graduate I should have dressed for the career I wanted; not just the job I was interviewing for.
4. ….I was told the importance of networking!
5. ….I was advised not to take job rejection personally.
6. ….Someone told me the importance of taking business related courses along with my major which could help me further succeed in the workplace.
7. ….I was reminded to research what computer skills were needed for my major so I would take the appropriate courses before graduating.
8. ….I understood how important it was to send a thank you note for each interview or networking session regardless of the outcome or my interest in the company.
9. ….I knew that the job search, as well as my career, requires preparation, persistence, enthusiasm and the right attitude.
10. ….Someone told me not to give up if I don’t get offered my “dream job” when I first graduate. Dreams take work and sometimes accepting an administrative or entry level position helps build and further develop skills and move you along the path to the “dream job”.
