Something that I have noticed that is lacking in students and recent grads is the ability to ask a question. Sometimes the reason for not asking is cultural, but mostly I find it stems from lack of confidence.
When you are on a job or internship it is important to ask questions. Your orientation or on boarding is the time when you should be asking lots and lots of questions about the company, your duties, procedures, and office policies.
Take notes! No one can remember everything and you want to have a reference to go back to. Once you are on your job or internship don’t be afraid to ask if you don’t know how to use an office machine, didn’t fully understand the instructions, or just want more details about the task you are handed.
You should try to be proactive, yes, but never be afraid to ask for clarification. Additionally, if you finish your assigned tasks at a position, get up and go ask for additional projects.
A great way to get noticed and succeed is to show you want to work and work hard! So don’t be afraid to ask ask ask, and remember, always think before you speak!

I agree with you about asking questions people should always ask questions because if you don't about the procedures of the job that's the time when you ask the questions.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you, I also have had this problem with speaking up and asking questions. I would always research and find the answer myself which sometimes would be time consuming or even difficult. I have gotten better with speaking up to get noticed because if you sit on the sideline and not ask questions and be noticed. That's were you will always be on the side lines while everyone else surpass you and get noticed thanks for this post.
