BACK TO THE FUTURE??

“He who controls the past commands the future. He who commands the future conquers the past.”
--- George Orwell
So many of us wish we could “turn back the hands of time” and/ or predict the future.  We want it so much that movies, books, and songs have been made about it.  Remember the 1985 hit “Back to the Future” where the characters were able to travel backwards and forward in time?  It would certainly be great to travel back in time to fix our future, but the reality is that we can’t.

That is why preparing for your future is of the utmost importance.  Educating yourself is the best thing you can do to prepare yourself for success.  But educating yourself means going beyond your degree.  It means you need to network, conduct research, and most importantly, build self-awareness.
Research: Research current trends related to your career or the career you are pursuing.
Self-awareness:  If you are ever uncertain about your answer to the cliché, “what do you want to be when you grow up?” evaluate yourself and your current situation.  Remember, we are living in a rapidly changing economy.  Your skills may be transferable to any number of settings.  Do not focus on specific job titles, but rather open your mind to new possibilities.

Network:  Attend the events we have available for students and alumni, join a social networking site such as LinkedIn, or join a professional organization.
Starting today, let there be no more regrets.  Go forward, continue to educate yourself.
